About Kraemer Materials >> History

Kraemer Mining & Materials was a division of Edward Kraemer & Sons, Inc., a diverse general contractor and construction aggregates supplier until June 17, 2006 when it became a stand alone company under the same family ownership.
The Burnsville Quarry was opened by the company in 1959 to provide material for the I-35W project, and the quarry has grown to produce in excess of 2.5 million tons of product annually. Material from this site has also been used in projects around the metro area such as the Mall of America, Lakeville South High School and many freeways in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. There are currently 45 employees working out of the Burnsville location.

Mille Lacs Quarry - Kraemer Materials opened a granite quarry in Mille Lacs County, northwest of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro area. The first blast took place in winter 2004 and production began in Spring 2005.
Auburn Minerals The Auburn Minerals location (Eveleth, Minnesota) was recently reclaimed after extracting 3.8 million tons of high quality natural iron ore for use in the sintering process conducted by our customer, U.S. Steel Corporation of Gary, Indiana. Sintering is the process of recycling many of the waste products produced by the steel-making activity into a reusable product, thus increasing the efficiency of the operation and reducing waste.
Ballast and Brokerage Through agreements with a Taconite mining company and an aggregate processor, Kraemer Materials distributed high quality railroad ballast to railroads serving the Iron Range of Minnesota. With access to rail and deep-water vessels, a variety of specialty products were produced for our customers, and were distributed throughout the Great Lakes region and Canada.
